Metal is my media of choice. I particularly seek old metal, like metal from vintage cars. Packed with history and stories of the past. When I start sanding the metal there is often a surprise in the layers. A dark color turns primer bright, a rusted, barnacled piece pops shiny. Rebirth to the discarded. I attempt to express a subtle nod to what used to be. I want the viewer to find their own nostalgia as they explore each sculpture. The addition of a vintage toy is like a whimsical passenger that has somehow enjoyed the journey.
